You know the look—soft, sexy waves with a slightly matte finish that looks like you just happily rolled out of your Pinterest-perfect bed. It’s the style often seen on it-girls like Alexa Chung, Blake Lively or Chrissy Teigen as they casually waft around the city with their cold-pressed juices in hand. The key to achieving this messy, lived-in look is texture. Master Designer Griffin Carr shares his tips on how to get this effortlessly chic style.
THE SECRET WEAPON
Carr recommends using a texturizing spray like Texturiza Spray by UNITE. “It’s a dry finishing spray with moveable hold that’s perfect for creating messy, lived-in, beachy looks,” says Carr. “It’s great for hair that won’t hold styles very well. It also adds definition to layered hair.”
To add extra body and volume, Carr says, “Flip your hair upside-down and spray [Texuriza] from underneath, then run your fingers through your hair and flip back over for a full, voluminous look.” The more you use, the more volume you build. This trick works on a variety of lengths from long layers to choppy bobs.
“For men we use this [Texturiza] to create messy pompadour styles,” says Carr. He enjoys the matte finish and the unisex, naturally-derived aroma Texturiza Spray provides.
“I would only use this as a finishing spray on dry hair, not wet,” said Carr. “It also works great with dry shampoo. I’d use dry shampoo on my roots and then work Texturiza throughout the rest,” recommends Carr.
